Crazy But Effective PR
December 18, 2007
PR Week Magazine has described Peter as "redefining the art of networking," and Investor's Business Daily has called him "crazy, but effective." Peter Shankman is a spectacular example of what happens when you harness the power of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and put it to work for you.
Peter is CEO of The Geek Factory, Inc., a Marketing a PR Strategy firm located in New York City, with clients worldwide. For the Geek Factory, Peter consults to companies around the Globe, including the Snapple Beverage Group, Walt Disney World, Vantage Point Venture Partners, American Express, Discovery Networks, New Frontier Media, OpSec Security, GenuOne, Dream Catcher Destinations Club, and many others. Peter sits on the board of the Scott-e-Vest, the world's first technologically enabled clothing line.
Peter is also the Founder of AirTroductions, the world's first airline networking and dating service. Founded in 2005, AirTroductions has already made the radar screens of media worldwide. It was from this media attention that AirTroductions experienced unprecedented growth, was acquired in January of 2007 and relaunched as TripLife (www.triplife.com) in September of 2007. Peter sits on the board of TripLife.
Peter's first book, "Can We Do That?! Outrageous PR Stunts and Why Your Company Needs Them" (Wiley, 2006) was published by Wiley and Sons in December of 2006. Men's Fitness Magazine called it "The out-of-the-box bible."
Peter has spoken upon invitation at various conferences and trade shows, including NAB, CTIA, CTAM, CES, PMA, The Next Gen Asia Advertising Conference, Advertising Week, the DMA, and others. Peter has also been the keynote speaker at the Florida Advertising Council Conference.
He's the marketing pundit for the Fox News Channel Program "The O'Reilly Factor," and is a frequent guest on all of the major US and International news channels.
Peter started his career in Vienna, VA, with America Online as a Senior News Editor, helping found the AOL Newsroom and achieve over 1,000,000 user hours per month. While Peter was at AOL, membership in the online service grew from 3,000,000 members to 12,000,000 members by the time he left. Peter also spearheaded coverage of the Democratic and Republican 1996 conventions, marking the first time an online news service covered any major political event.
Born and raised in New York City, Peter still lives there with his two psychotic cats, Karma and NASA, who consistently deny his repeated requests to relinquish the couch. In the few hours of spare time Peter has per month, he's a frequent runner, with 13 completed marathons and three Olympic distance triathlons to his credit, an amateur boxer, and an "B" licensed skydiver, specializing in freeflying.
